DUBAI: Following their limited-overs tri-series triumph over Sri Lanka in Colombo on Monday, India jumped one place to regain the second spot in the ICC one-day rankings.
India defeated Sri Lanka by 46 runs in the tri-nation series final to claim the second spot, replacing world champions Australia.
India now have 126 points while Australia, who were pushed back to the third place with 125 points in the ODI rankings. South Africa occupies the top spot with 127 points.
If India clinch the eight-nation Champions Trophy in South Africa they will regain the number one position.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s India had grabbed the top spot for the first time ever since introduction of the ICC ODI rankings by defeating New Zealand in the opening encounter of the tri-series on Sept 11.
However, a humiliating 139-run loss against host Sri Lanka in the very next match, forced India to drop to third place in less than 24 hours.
