Load shedding, inflation restricting growth: ICCI

ISLAMABAD: Frequent power break down and higher inflation were proving to be an impediment in the promotion of industry and the businessmen demanded the government to take appropriate measures for removing the matter.

President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Mian Shaukat Masud expressed these views during a meeting held today. The CDA Labor Union General Secretary, Muhammad Yasin, speaking on the occasion, stressed for the need of creating more unity between traders and the CDA labor union for developing Islamabad on modern lines with joint efforts. He said there should be no political intervention in elections of the CDA unions and trade associations as it was against the spirit of democracy.

ICCI former President, Munawar Mughal and Chairman Founder Group, Khalid Javed addressing the audience said the ICCI was playing a vital role for facilitating the growth of trade and industry and for resolving business community’s problems. Therefore, maximum traders should become member of the ICCI to further strengthen it.

Majority of the ICCI members were small traders while many market representatives were the members of the ICCI Executive Committee, which showed the commitment of the ICCI to serve small traders. Therefore, there was no justification for any small traders’ chamber in Islamabad.

Organising Secretary of Traders Action Committee, Ajmal Baloch stressed for the need of promulgation of a fair and balanced rent control act in Islamabad to stem the rising trend of rent disputes and forced eviction of traders from shops. Link...
