Two more infants die, toll now 69

BANGALORE: The latest victim of the deadly H1N1 flu is an infant at Victoria Hospital. On Monday, two children including the infant died there. Though hospital authorities confirmed that the deaths were due to the flu, the health department did not.

Besides the children, three persons succumbed to the flu on Tuesday. With this, the state's toll has gone up to 69. All the three deaths were from Bangalore, two from government hospitals and one from a private one. The deceased are a 17-year-old male, a 27-year-old woman and a 24-year-old woman. Their test reports were confirmed only two days after the death.

On Tuesday, 19 people tested positive for the flu -- 16 from Bangalore, one from Bagalkot and two from Chikaballapur.

To control the epidemic, the active surveillance programme in BBMP areas has completed its third phase, covering 4,500 households. Sensitization programme for doctors in Bangalore Urban and Rural districts has also been completed. Link...
